'Within the series, I was essentially like the producer. The photographer was dismissed.' Dorothy Sing Zhang on series: 'Like Someone Alive'
In September, I interviewed and wrote about London-based artist Dorothy Sing Zhang's series and new Art Paper Editions publication, 'Like Someone Alive', for Milanese publication, Lampoon Magazine.
Comprised of forty-four final images and shot over several months, Sing Zhang set up a camera in willing subject's bedrooms, with a cable release beneath their pillows, their night-time movements triggering the creation of an image. Part social survey, and part examination of the self, the series gives an insight into what it means to be asleep in a world ever-fed on the 'nowness' of being awake.
