Inspired by our exhibition Breaking the News, this two-day masterclass will explore the approaches and techniques used in satirical and topical comedy writing. Over the weekend you’ll learn how to use comedy to express your opinions, how to create caricatures of public figures, and how to write them into comedy sketches and topical one-liners using a variety of tools and techniques
From Have I Got News for You to Saturday Night Live, we’ll draw on examples from a variety of mediums including TV, radio, stand up, print, digital and social media. Led by comedy director, script editor and author, Chris Head, alongside guest speaker, comedian Matt Green, you will be guided through writing exercises, group work, and receive personalised feedback on your comedy writing.
This course will run across the following dates:
  • Saturday 16 July 2022, 10.30 – 17.00
  • Sunday 17 July 2022, 10.30 – 17.00
