Our first magCulture Meets event of 2024 takes place on Thursday 25 January
Natassa Pappa, founder of Desired Landscapes magazine, will be visiting us from Athens to introduce the brand new seventh issue of her pocket-sized magazine. Each issue visits a variety of cities, exploring a sense of place through the visual culture of each one through the use of personal stories, critical texts, archival material, maps and poetic snapshots. It’s a unique project that experiments with storytelling even as it delivers genuine insight into the destinations it takes us to.
Alongside the print magazine, Natassa also arranges city walks in Athens, and has recently opened a Desired Landscapes kiosk in the city.
She’ll be discusing the origins of Desired Landscapes and introducing the seventh issue of the magazine, whcih takes the reader to Hamburg, Basel, Athens, Tokyo, Dublin, Vienna, Bangkok, Canberra, Amsterdam, New York City, Vale Da Telha, Hong Kong, Tangier, Tbilisi and Los Angeles, plus a city guide to Warsaw.

The magCulture Meets evenings have run since 2016, at the magCulture Shop in Clerkenwell. Centred around a talk by a magazine-maker about their project, the evenings are also a cahnce to meet fellow magaizne lovers. Doors open at 630pm, the talks start at 7pm, and attendees can stay afterwards for a drink, chat and browse. We usually wrap up around 8.30.
