Organised by The Guardian

For the next in our Off the Record series, Zoe Williams will be joined by the Guardian’s award-winning senior economics commentator Aditya Chakrabortty
How do you write a weekly column about the biggest inequalities of our time? What is it like regularly reporting from all corners of the country on key societal issues? And how do you manage your own frustrations in the face of such political failures?
Aditya Chakrabortty has been a journalist for over twenty years, working at the BBC before joining the Guardian in 2007 as an economics leader writer months before the global financial crisis. Aditya’s distinct style, ability to dig out untold stories and personal tone has made him one of the most respected writers at the Guardian. He has won a number of awards over the years including, most recently, broadsheet columnist of the year at the British Press Awards in March 2023.

Aditya will be sharing anecdotes from his time as a reporter and economics commentator, and will go behind the headlines to reveal his heroes, his most memorable moments, his successes and when things haven’t worked out as he’d hoped. You will also have the opportunity to ask Aditya your own questions in this livestreamed and interactive event.
