Innovation: How COVID Made Us Rethink Space

Please note: this event takes place online from San Francisco Wed, December 1, 2021 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM PST (Thursday 2, 2021 01:00 AM – 03:00 AM GMT)

With crisis comes opportunity.

The COVID-19 pandemic required event creators worldwide to toss out their rulebook overnight: to rethink safety, space, production, talent, and so much more. Everything creators took for granted was no longer assured — but along the way, the previously unthinkable became suddenly feasible.

We’re thrilled to invite you to our fourth Reconvene Session, where we’ll gather in-person in San Francisco with creators and business leaders from The Chapel, Porchlight, and the San Francisco Entertainment Commission to learn about charting a new course forward through creative, flexible, and innovative use of space.

Join us in celebration of the ingenuity and determination of event creators like yourself — and come away with fresh ideas for gathering and creative collaboration!

Who You'll Hear From:
  • Ben Bleiman, President of the San Francisco Entertainment Commission, is a 20-year veteran of nightlife and hospitality in San Francisco, and has owned 11 brick-and-mortar bars through his business Tonic Nightlife Group. He is also President of the California Music and Culture Association and founded the San Francisco Bar Owner Alliance.
  • Patricia Gums, Director of Restaurant Operations and Event Sales at The Chapel and their sister restaurant Curio SF, has a storied career in restaurants, nightlife, and event production, and previously served as Director of Private Events for Yoshi’s in San Francisco and Director of Special Events for the UC Theatre in Berkeley.
  • Marc Capelle, Musical Director for Porchlight, a San Francisco storytelling series, is a native San Franciscan and lifelong musician and producer. He has performed and worked with hundreds of acts and dozens of local venues, and has collaborated with numerous local and national festivals including SFFILM, Sketchfest, Outside Lands, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Litquake, and the Festival of Faiths.

What You'll Learn
  • How veteran creators navigated Covid-19 with perseverance and creative thinking
  • Why critical moments can serve as catalysts for change and opportunity
  • How businesses under threat pivoted towards safe operation and new success
  • How creators, businesses, and municipalities collaborate towards new models and new ways of thinking

Because sometimes, event creators have to think outside the box … literally. See you there!

We're so excited to share these insights with you live and in-person. See you there!
