Sebastian Barry, the award-winning novelist, will be joining us to introduce his new novel, Old God’s Time.

Tom Kettle, a recently retired police officer, is easing into the gentle rhythm of his new life. He tends to his lean-to house, fondly remembers his beloved wife June and their children, and sees barely a soul for months . But when two former colleagues arrive at his door with questions about a decades-old case, one which Tom has never quite come to terms with, he finds himself pulled into the darkest currents of his past.
This novel about love, memory and grief has been described by Douglas Stuart as “unforgettable” and “wonderfully alive”. Barry has written 10 previous novels, including A Long Long Way and The Secret Scripture, inspired by stories from his family history, and both of which were shortlisted for the Booker prize. He has won the Costa Book of the Year award twice, and between 2018 and 2021 was the Laureate for Irish Fiction. He will be in conversation with Claire Armitstead.
