The 7th annual SIMMposium, hosted by the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London

About this event
Tickets are available to join the conference in-person, at the Guildhall School, or online as part of a Zoom webinar.
The 7th annual SIMMposium will take place from Monday 12 – Wednesday 14 December 2022 at Milton Court in London. It is hosted by Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the research platform SIMM, in collaboration and with the support of Copenhagen Centre for Research in Artistic Citizenship (CReARC/RMC).
The three day conference will focus on many aspects of SIMM (Social Impact of Music Making) research, including overarching themes of "assessing impact", "inclusion / empowerment", "interprofessional collaboration", "the practice of facilitation" and "training socially engaged musicians".
The keynote speech will be delivered by Prof. Hartmut Rosa (Friedrich Schiller Universität) - "Being in Resonance in Social Music Projects" - on the first day of the conference.
A full schedule (subject to change) is available to download from Dropbox.
Highlights of the event include:
  • A panel on "The Socially-Engaged Composer"
  • A panel concerning "The Role of the Institution in Supporting Musicians to Work in the SIMM Context"
  • An afternoon of papers exploring the outcomes of the "Music for Social Impact: Practitioners’ work, contexts, beliefs" (PI: John Sloboda)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The cost of the in-person ticket includes morning and afternoon refreshments each day, as well as a wine reception on the evening of the last day. It does not include lunch.
**Unfortunately, it's not possible for us to give any advice on hotel accommodation. Several delegates and the organisers are staying at the London Central City Road Travelodge, which is a low-cost option 5-mins walk from the venue. There are also plenty of options in nearby King's Cross, although this would require taking transport to the venue each day**
Any questions regarding the conference should be directed to Rachel Kellett (rachel.kellett@gsmd.ac.uk) in the first instance.
