Organised by DAILIES
Light, Composition & The Craft of Cinematography - A Practical Workshop with Molly Manning Walker & Jake Gabbay
DAILIESESSIONS is a professional development and workshop series exploring different aspects of the filmmaking process. The sessions provide insightful training and knowledge for emerging and established filmmakers, actors, production crew, and more.
For this DAILIESESSIONS, we have brought together 2 award winning cinematographers, Molly Manning Walker and Jake Gabbay. They will each lead a practical two-hour session that dissects their approach to lighting different skin tones, designing a shot, lighting for different times of day and evoking a specific mood and tone.
Utilising actors, props, lights and different lenses, Molly and Jake will break down their own understanding of light and how it informs the emotional and narrative complexion of a story. Where do you want to draw people’s gaze and perspective? How can we think more creatively about the lighting process?
There will be a Q&A session with the cinematographers following the conclusion of the two sessions.
Molly Manning Walker is a British cinematographer and BAFTA nominated director, based in London. Her debut feature film How to Have Sex (2023) won the Un Certain Regard Grand Prix at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and the European Discovery award at the 36th European Film Academy Awards.

This session is for aspiring and working cinematographers who want to further deepen their knowledge of the lighting process, it is also for directors who want to improve their own understanding of lighting and the camera’s function in visual storytelling.
