Join WFTV for an interview with director Channing Godfrey Peoples about her feature film debut Miss Juneteenth.

In this event, host Tracy Forsyth will be speaking to the filmmaker about how growing up in Fort Worth Texas inspired the story, the significance of the Miss Juneteenth pageant which takes place annually on Juneteenth – a holiday in recognition of slaves in Texas being freed – and her experiences of making the film.

After the talk you will have opportunity to put your questions to Channing during the audience Q&A.

Turquoise Jones is a single mom who holds down a household, a rebellious teenager, and pretty much everything that goes down at Wayman’s BBQ & Lounge. Turquoise is also a bona fide beauty queen—she was once crowned Miss Juneteenth, a title commemorating the day slaves in Texas were freed – two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Life didn’t turn out as beautifully as the title promised, but Turquoise, determined to right her wrongs, is cultivating her daughter, Kai, to become Miss Juneteenth, even if Kai wants something else. Watch the trailer here.

Vertigo Entertainment have generously offered a number of screening codes exclusively to WFTV members for the opportunity to watch the film in advance of the Q&A. To receive a screening code, please login to your WFTV account and sign-up via Eventbrite link below this listing.
