Join this creative workshop with NEWGEN designer Sadie Williams to experiment with sublimation printing techniques and translate your hand-crafted designs using the heat press to create sparkling accessories using up-cycled fabrics.
What to expect
Discover how tangible accessories can be created using leftover materials from previous season collections and set designs. You will learn how to use your imagination to create unique, one-off print designs to transform the surface and aesthetic of the given materials whilst reflecting your own personal style and design identity.
You will be introduced to Sadie William’s practice, including highlights from her NEWGEN creative output. Learn how pattern and colour can transform surfaces and gain an understanding of how outfits can be elevated through introducing accessories, such as hair pieces, and how patches and badges can serve to decorate garments or send a message, whilst having the ability to repair damaged garments.
This process is known as heat-transfer printing or 'Sublimation printing'. Print designs ‘transfer’ onto synthetic fabric fibres through heat, using a heat-press heated to 180-200 degrees. You will be adopting your own hand-painted and hand-collaged print designs.
This workshop is open to anyone with an interest in fashion design. No experience is necessary. Basic hand-sewing skills are useful but not essential.
