The team
Technology underpins everything we do. It’s why we’re able to create great content and deliver it to our viewers. It drives new commercial opportunities. And it makes communication and collaboration easier than ever.
In a fast-changing world, we not only make sure our systems work effectively but our Technology teams are spearheading the transformation to a digital-first business. There’s never been a more exciting time to join our team.
ITV’s Common Platform, a shared set of infrastructure templates and services, has been integral to ITV’s technology strategy for over 10 years and has grown to support everything from how we deliver huge scale live events on ITVX to how we pay our talent. This platform is underpinned by a large, distributed team of skilled engineers delivering both enablers for specific business units but also core capabilities for the wider development community at large. As we continue to make our platform more powerful and accessible to both software and platform engineers alike, driving forward our developer experience to accelerate ITV’s business agility, there’s never been a more exciting time to join our team.
The role
This is an exciting opportunity to execute and deliver the vision for the ITV Common Platform, the platform that is host to ITV's cloud-hosted digital product portfolio.
The Common Platform is a carefully curated grouping of open-source, PaaS, and SaaS products, used by Developers and Platform engineers across the ITV business. The platform satisfies the scaling needs of ITVX, the security requirements of our talent payment system, and the reliability demands of our broadcast scheduling system. Given the Common Platforms extensive reach across the business this role is critical for ensuring the smooth delivery and roll out of central capabilities and managing the complex dependencies that exist across five key areas of the business. The Common Platform is a fundamental cloud enabler for the business and so it is crucial we ensure we’re constantly measuring and improving our developer experience through stakeholder engagement, surveys and reporting.
As the Common Platform Agile Delivery Manager you are accountable for helping to validate whether we are working on the right goals in the right way, or whether we might benefit from pivoting in a different direction. Our Agile Delivery Managers help achieve this through coaching multiple teams toward effective planning and predictable, iterative delivery.
The role will entail but not be limited to:
  • Coordinate with other Agile Delivery Managers to provide transparency and insights at a product area and portfolio level.
  • Work hands-on with multiple teams to champion the adoption of agile values, principles and good practices.
  • Mentor junior Agile Delivery Managers.
  • Champion an agile mindset to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Work with Product Managers, senior leaders and other stakeholders to ensure transparent goals and priorities.
  • Facilitate team and cross-team events.
  • Identify and help remove impediments.
  • Leverage tools like Jira to help teams plan, coordinate and optimise flow.
  • Contribute towards ITV’s Agile Delivery community, sharing knowledge and experiences to help build capabilities across the organisation.
  • Work across the wider Platform Engineering community that are embedded across the organisation, ensuring “core” releases are rolled out across the organisation and dependencies are managed.
  • Foster strong working relationships with peers across ITV and with our technology partners & 3rd parties based on clear, honest and supportive communication.
  • Be an active member of the wider Agile Delivery Community, driving innovation and learning from peers across the organisation
Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)
  • A minimum of 5 years experience across Scrum Master and/or Agile Delivery Manager positions.
  • Well-versed in building trust and coaching teams toward self-management and cross-functional behaviours.
  • Interest and understanding of various agile frameworks, methods and good practices.
  • Capable of managing work and dependencies across internal and external partner teams.
  • Experience of using empiricism to drive continuous improvement in planning, forecasting and predictability.
  • Strong coaching and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with multiple stakeholder demands.
  • Experienced working on digital software development projects, particularly those that are technical in nature like back-end API or infrastructure products
Other things we’re looking for (key criteria)
  • Extremely organised and forward thinking
  • Keen to understand the content and significance of what is being delivered. Not just a proceduralist
  • Strong influencing & people skills. We work in diverse cross-functional teams of multiple disciplines and our candidates need to be able to work effectively across that.
  • Persistence and resilience. Within ITV it's particularly important as we work in a matrix set up, and to achieve your desired outcomes you have to keep battling through obstacles.
  • Proactive and capable of driving towards solutions rather than identifying problems
