THE ROLE
Job Introduction
The Science Unit and Specialist Factual Productions in BBC Studios are looking to refresh their Assistant Producer Talent pool for experienced APs both in London and Glasgow. Successful applicants who are placed in the pool will be put forward as a priority for suitable work opportunities as and when they arise throughout the year. Appointment to the pool will not entitle candidates to permanent contracts in the BBC, those will have to be applied for in the normal way.  Being placed in the pool is also not a guarantee of future work.

Specialist Factual Productions have a reputation as one of the industry’s leading producers of premium, definitive history, arts and cultural storytelling for a global range of broadcasters and platforms. We recently produced Fight the Power: How Hip Hop Changed the World, the award-winning story of Hip Hop, Executive Produced and led by Chuck D and award-nominated series Disco: Soundtrack of a Revolution (BBC/PBS). The Science Unit produces a huge range of bold and trail-blazing content.  From blue-chip landmark series to drama-documentary and popular consumer health programming, we use quality journalism, innovation and the latest technology to make complex scientific ideas accessible to audiences across the globe. We supply content to a range of broadcasters and platforms including the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, PBS, Netflix and YouTube, as well as branded content and podcasts. We are the makers of Emmy & BAFTA award winning The Surgeon’s Cut (Netflix), The Secret Genius of Modern Life (BBC Two), The Sky at Night (BBC Four), Secrets of the Neanderthals (Netflix), Einstein and the Bomb (Netflix), landmark series Earth and Universe (BBC One) as well as Dinosaurs: End of Days (BBC One) and the hard hitting Greta Thunberg: A year to Change the World (BBC One).
Are you the right candidate?
  • A keen interest in the types of programmes that we produce.
  • Evidence of substantial experience at Assistant Producer level.
  • Experience of setting up shoots in the UK and internationally along with location experience.
  • Attention to detail and factual accuracy is essential.
  • Good understanding of production Health and Safety issues.
  • Proven experience of working within programme budgets.
  • Evidence of visual flair and strong storytelling.
  • The ability to work well in teams, sharing information and knowledge and working closely with other team members.
  • Ability to self-shoot is desirable but not essential.

Interviews are expected to take place via Zoom from late September onwards.
