BBC Monitoring (BBCM) provides news and information based on our monitoring of open source media from over 150 countries in more than 100 languages and across all platforms. It is a centre of expertise and an important part of the BBC’s newsgathering operation with journalists based in the UK and international bureaux. Our extensive operation enables us to provide insightful and reliable coverage of political, economic, security and media news. Our round –the-clock reporting of TV, radio, press, online and social media is also provided to commercial clients, partners and the UK Government.
As Journalist, you will produce engaging content in English in a range of different formats, on insights gained through monitoring TV, radio, newspapers and social media in the target area.
You will tell stories, integrating video, images, graphics and data into BBC Monitoring products in order to have a powerful visual impact.
Feed into the news agenda for the day, identifying new ways to deliver content relevant to all BBCM's audience.
Contribute to the development of new products/services, generating ideas for how stories can be best told to serve BBCM's audience.
Are you the right candidate?
You will have an excellent understanding of both Arabic and French languages, OR both Arabic and Kurdish. You’ll also have:
Ability to write about developments in Arab media in idiomatic English, in a way that is engaging and relevant for the intended audience, and suitable for delivery on multiple platforms
A thorough knowledge and understanding of the news and current affairs of the Arab World and in-depth subject matter expertise on the local media environment.
It would be advantageous if you have:
Knowledge of the geopolitics of North Africa
Understanding of BBCM’s user groups and target markets
Digital skills (eg social media analysis skills, data skills, coding)
Broadcast experience
Content creation and video shooting/editing skills

Salary: £27000 - £37000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
