Sky News has a strong reputation for delivering breaking news, eyewitness journalism and insightful analysis. Video is a key part of our content both on and off-platform and we have seen considerable growth in video consumption over recent years – becoming one of the biggest publishers on TikTok with over 6.5m followers and 200m views/month as well as building a strong presence on YouTube.
This new senior role will lead our video journalism teams, overseeing the commissioning of original digital-first video projects, planned content, new digital shows as well as on the day coverage across Sky’s platforms and social media channels.
Drive the editorial vision for video across all digital platforms, ensuring it is engaging and aligns with the wider Sky News strategy.
Oversee the creation and development of innovative, digital-first video content.
Work closely with newsgathering teams to ensure our video content showcases eyewitness on-the-ground reporting.
Develop and adapt video content for various platforms, including TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat and emerging social channels, maximizing audience engagement and reach.
Inspire, support, and line-manage video producers and assistant editors to ensure high standards of output and timely, accurate publishing.
Use analytics and insights to monitor video performance, identifying opportunities to improve reach, dwell time, and overall impact.
Stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring Sky News continues to innovate in video storytelling.
Collaborate with the Head of Digital Output and Cross-Platform Audience Growth Editor to ensure video content aligns with our wider strategies.
Ensure all video content meets legal, regulatory, and editorial guidelines.
Look for revenue opportunities available on platform and from third party platforms.
Extensive experience in commissioning, producing, and editing high-quality video content in a fast-paced news environment.
Strong leadership skills, with experience in managing diverse teams and fostering a collaborative approach.
Demonstrable understanding of how to create engaging video content tailored for different platforms, especially social media.
Excellent understanding of editorial guidelines, with the ability to uphold and enforce the highest standards across all video output.
Experience using analytics to drive audience engagement and optimize video content.
Be brimming with ideas for compelling video storytelling across different platforms.
A flexible, proactive approach, in keeping with the demands of a 24/7 news network.
Excellent communication skills, impeccable attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines under pressure.
