Description

At RVU we combine the close-knit and agile environment of a startup, with the know-how, technology and backing of a well-established company.
Our mission is to empower people to make confident decisions. With our unique set of brands, including Uswitch, Confused.com, Tempcover and  Money.co.uk, we have the power to reach millions of consumers and the technology to deliver a world class online experience for them.
About Uswitch:
At Uswitch, our goal is to be the UK’s favourite way to choose and manage home-life essentials - from broadband and mobiles to energy. As we continue to grow and expand our services, we are looking for talented individuals who share our passion for making a positive impact on people's lives. If you want to be part of a team that is transforming the way consumers navigate their household services, we would love to hear from you.
About the role:
This 12 month role is an opportunity to be the driving force behind building Uswitch’s authority and expertise in a key sector that has a direct impact on household bills - energy.  You’ll be joining our award-winning team, voted PRCA’s In-House PR Team of the Year 2023,  dedicated to achieving high levels of coverage and influencing policy and decision-makers.
As UK households face the most challenging time in a generation with the ongoing cost of living crisis, it’s our responsibility to raise our game by being there for consumers.
You’ll campaign for change within the energy industry and empower consumers to take control of their household bills.
This is a great role for an experienced PR professional with an excellent knowledge of the national media landscape to take ownership of our consumer-focused energy programme.
What you'll be doing:
Campaign management: Planning and delivery of campaigns at key moments that support commercial, policy or brand marketing objectives. Exploring ways to reach target audiences, such as working with talent or influencers. Working with the product and commercial teams to ensure activity aligns with business priorities.
Content calendar: Landing front of paper coverage to support our energy messaging from fixed deals returning, household energy savings and policy priorities. Managing internal data and external consumer research, writing press releases to a high standard and ensuring our story pipeline is up to date and shared with wider marketing teams. Working closely with our Digital Earned Media and organic social media teams to ensure all activity is integrated.
Press office first response: Providing an industry-leading press office, answering queries in and out of office hours (typically only 1-2 times per month) and managing our media centre. Confidently representing the PR team to internal and external stakeholders, including managing spokesperson briefings and arranging high-profile TV and radio interviews.
Newsjacking: Monitoring industry agenda and daily news to identify opportunities to write and deliver expert commentary that cuts through in a crowded media space.
Media relations: Building, maintaining and maximising strong relationships with consumer affairs, energy, personal finance, lifestyle, trade and broadcast media and other key industry influencers, including our business partners.
Regulatory support: Working with the policy and regulation team to provide PR support for our public affairs agenda.
Spokespeople: Managing, coaching and training spokespeople and coordinating their calendars for press/broadcast interviews and video/podcast appearances.
Agency management: Acting as day to day lead for our Energy PR agency, ensuring we get value from our external support.
Reporting and coverage tracking: Recording all incoming media coverage and measuring against competitors, managing relationships with news monitoring providers and reporting on results.
What we look for:
  • Demonstrable experience in consumer PR with experience in a relevant sector (e.g. energy, utilities, personal finance) with excellent communication skills. Proactive self-starter with a proven track record of, creating and owning consumer campaigns that deliver impactful results with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make sense of our policy goals and effectively communicate them through PR messaging- turning policy positions into media narratives. An ability to grasp complex topics and communicate them in consumer-friendly language.
  • Able to manage priorities and make strategic decisions, such as  judgement calls on whether a reactive media moment serves in consumers’ best interest, as well as balancing our commercial and policy goals.
  • Ability to capitalise on  reactive media opportunities and turn around an accurate, newsworthy comment at pace, as well as creative thinking for proactive campaigns.
  • Strong writing skills - able to articulate messages in an engaging style with attention to detail. Comfortable working with insights, data and third party consumer research to support our storytelling.
You don’t need to tick off everything on this list - so don’t let that hold you back from applying. We want to make sure you’re learning plenty during your time with us!
Our commitment to you:
At RVU we believe that we can be the change we wish to see in the world. We hold ourselves accountable to being open and inclusive teammates and community members. We embrace our differences and are committed to creating an inclusive environment that reflects the world we live in.
