Freelancers are eligible to apply for an internal role if they are on a Worker Contract and they have worked continuously for 6 months. Job Introduction
This is a job for someone with considerable experience in digital news. You will be equally comfortable with editing text to the highest standard as with develop new concepts and handling analytics. You will also have experience of leading a team and leading change.
You will be expected to work in a cross-disciplinary way and keep across industry developments.
The senior news editor will report to the executive news editor in charge of Digital Development and Design.
Main Responsibilities
  • Devise and lead development, testing and rollout of new editorial initiatives that meet BBC strategic priorities and/or grow audiences
  • Drive audience adoption and habitual use of newsletters and other editorial products through a continuous process of experimentation and iteration
  • Build close relationships with teams in News and Current Affairs, Product, Audiences, Marketing and Studios
  • Set clear objectives and KPIs for each project
  • Grow and develop a team that has the skills, knowledge and experience to identify, develop and champion digital initiatives
  • Provide expert insight into the competition, audience needs and behaviours.
Are you the right person?
  • A track record showing excellent editorial judgement with experience of editing and producing text for digital platforms to the highest standard
  • A proven record of building and leading a strong, inclusive and purposeful team culture
  • In-depth knowledge of digital analytics and proven experience of using them to develop/ test ideas and grow audiences
  • Experience of leading multi-disciplinary work across departments to deliver impactful journalism that resonates with digital audiences
  • Thorough understanding of the different processes and systems needed to steer new initiatives at scale
  • In depth understanding of how technology and platform changes drive user behaviour
