I’m a highly experienced freelance graphic designer with 20 years of experience in the publishing industry, most recently as senior art editor for Quarto Publishing, and I’m currently looking for creative opportunities in graphic design, art direction, project management and illustration. I create innovative, eye-catching layouts, covers and presentations for books and magazines across a range of different genres (including arts & crafts, reference, health & beauty, MBS, food & drink, design and YA); taking projects from initial concept through to print-ready PDFs. My responsibilities have included managing junior designers and interns, as well as external support (such as freelancers and photographers). I’m therefore adept at sourcing, commissioning, briefing and managing freelance designers, illustrators, picture-researchers and photographers. I was also responsible for ensuring that workflows ran smoothly, that all creative assets met the required standards in order to maintain brand equity, and that projects were delivered on time and within budget. Accustomed to working to tight deadlines in fast-paced environments, I'm adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously. In addition to being an accomplished user of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Greenlight, I also have knowledge of html, CSS, XD and Sketch. Furthermore, my skills include identifying and actioning any necessary repro work, pre-flighting and creating print-ready PDFs, organising and checking colour proofs, building schedules and budgets, creating sales material, managing reprints and backlist titles, raising contracts, handling invoices and coordinating the archiving of all assets. Furthermore, as an accomplished art director for photography shoots, I manage all aspects of the process; from conceptualising the “look” of the shots and commissioning the photographer, to sourcing the location/props/backgrounds, styling products and running the entire shoot day.
