J & L Gibbons expertise concerns heritage, green infrastructure and urban regeneration and lead on collaborative cross-disciplinary practice at a strategic and local level, mostly in London. J & L Gibbons are an award winning practice. They were finalists in the prestigious Rosa Barba International Landscape Prize 2014; winners of the RIBA’s Vauxhall Missing Link international competition in 2013. In 2008 and 2011 they were winners of Landscape Institute President’s Award for their work on the East London Green Grid and Making Space in Dalston respectively. The Forestry Commission recognised their work in the at Angel Building Islington, winning the 2015 London RE:LEAF Tree and Woodland Award for Trees and Development. The practice is part of a collaborative pilot research project, UrbanMind, for Imperial College, the Van Alen Institute, Kings College London and Nomad to explore how the urban environment affects mental wellbeing. Recently exhibited work includes ‘Rethinking Urban Landscapes’ at the Building Centre London and ‘Urbanistas’ at the Roca Gallery London, celebrating innovative women in urban design.
Walpole Park, Ealing. The Civic Voice Design Awards are unique in England in that they are a national celebration of good design and conservation projects nominated by local community organisations. To be successful, projects have to make a significant contribution to the quality of life in our villages, towns and cities. Nominated and supported by local people they are awards from local communities across the country. They are not the usual industry awards where professional give awards to other professionals.
