Lauren Welland is a poet, visual artist and creative business consultant. Born and raised in Devon, England, Lauren now lives in Vancouver, Canada on the unceded lands of the Squamish, Musqeum, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. She began her art career as a modern calligrapher and over the years applied her ink skills into creative abstract artwork. Pulling from her inspiration of the post-war abstract art movement, Lauren relates to the New York school of abstract expressionism. Her use of texture and brush work embodies emotions on chosen topics, she often paints while in flow focusing on the feelings rather than planning before hand. Lauren often works with a restrictive colour palette of pinks, white and black, which has helped to create her distinctive style. Focusing on ways to create texture within her work, Lauren wants viewers to spend time investigating her paintings. Poetry is also a passion for Lauren. Writing witty poems about her musings on every day life. She’s passionate about making poetry accessible for everyone, bringing a modern twist in the language she uses. As well as being a creative herself, Lauren consults for other creatives, working with visual artists, photographers, and graphic designers. She works with clients on their money mindsets, business planning, manifesting their dreams into reality, as well as networking and supporting with finance goals.
