In 2016 a study showed that emissions needed to be cut by 80% in order to stop irreversible damage to arctic climates, like for example the Greenland ice sheet. How could there be an 80% cut when what actually happened was a huge increase in emissions and an expansion of the fossil fuel industry! Hundreds of gas fired power plants and thousands of miles of frack gas pipelines proposed for the following years, expansion of off shore drilling in the US and power plants al over the world being built everyday that would be burning fossil fuels well into the 2050s.
