When the pandemic hit and restaurants and bars around the world were forced to close, I joined The World's 50 Best Restaurants's fundraising effort, 50 Best for Recovery, which raised more than £1 million for those hardest hit by coronavirus. Working with the 50 Best team, we reached out to chefs and bartenders all around the world to ask them to donate prizes to a major auction to raise money for struggling restaurant and bar businesses. The funds were distributed as direct grants to restaurants and bars, as well as to a selection of non-profit organisations, and also contributed to providing 1 million meals to the hungry.
