Where sexuality and mysticism meld, the ostensibly controversial nature of Javanese dance has put the tradition under a threat of vanishing. But as an art form, Javanese dance offers philosophical and spiritual narratives that challenge us to observe the transgression of opposites, and cinema might be the answer to keep this heritage alive.
