Agricultural Coop of Mykonos

  • Niko Xydakis

Supporting local businesses on my home island of Mykonos is a passion close to my heart, and this project was an exciting adventure! The Agriculture Coop of Mykonos, founded way back in 1938, had always worked out of a modest warehouse office. When they asked me to help craft their first-ever branding and webpage, I jumped at the chance. This project wasn’t just about creating a digital presence—it was about celebrating their rich history and helping them connect with a wider audience. Together, we embarked on a journey to blend tradition with modernity, ensuring the Coop could thrive in today’s market.

First Steps

I kicked off the project with an initial call to dive into their vision. The brief was quite open, giving me creative freedom to propose any styles I thought would fit. However, they were very passionate about their initial logo concept. This passion often makes subsequent changes easier and reduces the number of revisions needed, though it can sometimes pose challenges.

Once I had all the necessary information, I researched other local coops to understand their branding and web presence. I created a mood board filled with my findings, initial sketches, and ideas for color and typography. Then, I prepared three logo variations: their original concept and two alternatives that I believed would look even better. In the end, they chose to stick with their original idea.
Process

For the color palette, I drew inspiration from the island’s winter hues: the olive green of the trees, the beige tones of the charmingly imperfect masonry in the stone walls that divide the fields, and more. Through the shapes, I aimed to capture the essence of traditional architecture with simple yet elegant forms that seamlessly blend with the surroundings. The goal was to present tradition in a modern, sophisticated way. I carried this concept into the web design as well, keeping the page clean and easy to navigate. As an initial step, it serves to raise awareness about the coop while laying a strong foundation for future features like additional information pages or a potential e-shop.
Outcome

All stakeholders were thrilled with the results and proudly showcased their new branding to partners while promoting their work among local farmers. The branding has already been used across various platforms, including print and social media. With the foundation now laid, the vision is to eventually expand with an online shop and, most importantly, raise awareness about the coop. The goal is to support local farmers and engage tourists by highlighting local produce and offering insights into traditional farming practices. You can view the website at: www.agrotikosmykonou.com
