Alice's Adventures in Wonderland YCN

My entry for YCN Student Awards competition, for Pan Macmillan's brief. The brief was to create a new look for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to celebrate 150th anniversary of the book, primary audience being parents of girls aged 5-9. They asked for a cover illustration and two interior page illustrations.

I heavily focused on the dreamy aspect of the book, and thought that in dreams, things closest to us usually look more detailed, and everything else on the "background" often seems off or warped, at least if we think about it afterwards. I chose to represent this by painting the things closest to Alice at each scene by hand and realistically, while making the backgrounds colorful and surreal digitally. I also decided not to show Alice in these illustrations and the illustrations are made from her point of view, so that readers could insert themselves more into the role of Alice or imagine her as they want.
