Altyre Boat Building Centre

The Boat Building Centre aims to revitalise an existing farm building in northeast Scotland. A new CLT workshop, built using local timber, turns the site into a traditional boat building centre. The rest of the farm buildings are to be re-purposed for rope making, sailcloth weaving, drafting and also as accommodation for the visitors. The centre brings together both young and old, creating a space of collaboration and learning. For young people it would be an opportunity to learn new skills in a practical environment, while for older people it would provide a space to share their skills while alleviating the difficulties often associated with old age such as isolation.
