Brief: Produce a film for American Express promoting their Shop Small initiative. The importance of community is the starting point of the Shop Small programme by American Express. Putting local communities back into the picture while news reports talk about the death of the high street, this programme rewards shopping local and makes it clear just how relevant social media can be in spreading the word of incredible community stores. To bring this to life, we were asked to create a film that would work across American Express social channels. We started by turning the classic formality of banking comms on its head. We worked with comedy director Thomas Ormonde, who wrote a scripted piece that centres on a local influencer, Jim Chapman, touring his favourite neighbourhood spots, taking a playful look at the how we interact with our local traders and poking fun at the role social media plays in that too.
