Arts and crafts sessions for homeless women

  • Jasmine Tyagi

After writing my article for The Bristol Cable on female homelessness and hidden homelessness I asked all the women I interviewed what do they think society lacks, to which they responded with there being a lack in groups for women to build a sense of community and safety to share experiences. I am in the process of getting a DBS check and speaking with a charity that will hopefully support me to run arts and crafts sessions for these women so they can express their emotions towards their experiences and domestic violence through art. I told the women about this project and they were all very interested and wanted to take part. I also got the go-ahead from Cafe Kino in Bristol to hire out their basement and run these sessions. So, I am now just waiting to get a safety check and hopefully come September I can start running the sessions, creating a safe space for women to share stories or to just feel the safety from the presence of other women with similar experiences.
