Aston Villa FC crest

Aston Villa seem to be a little unsettled with their badge crest system... looking at the club logo history it seems to get altered and edited relatively frequently, with a revised badge being published last year - only for it to changed again this year. Anyway - my thoughts and edits: + The typeface used looks too bunched with the kerning being out and the curve didn't look smooth or to fit effectively in the space. So I altered the typeface altogether. Placing it within a banner container. Reintroducing the FC. + The old lion looked a little odd, I looked over the history of the AV lion and it looks odd in a number of the crests - in this year iteration the yellow in my opinion gets lost against the blue and the added drop shadow looks like a poor attempt to give it some dynamic definition. Ironically I liked the lion from the disliked crest last year... but understand why it wasn't used. I played with several lions and in the end favoured using just a lion head, with a heavy stroke line to increase the definition with the background and provide some needed contrast. (If i had longer I'd prob look at altering the level of detail in the head and the mane, playing with line weight, to add more character). + The white star I felt was a little lost, so slapped in front and centre in claret. + The shield shape... Am seeing lots of shield'ish shapes at the mo - not all shield shapes are equal. I believe they can still posses character and add depth. So taking inspiration from a very early AV logo I created this shield... with a nice nod of the point, pointing at the FC. Also making this the iconic claret. (on that note where is the claret in the AV current crest?) + To add additional depth and interest I added some render / shine lines. Overall I feel having tested these two next to one another the revised op scales better with much higher contrast. Peeps will want a whole lion, but I feel this still delivers the key message. The head could have added detail with potentially an additional deeper yellow to add more shadow in parts. As always peeps - let me know your thoughts and feelings. If you agree or disagree with my feedback and the edits I carried out.
