Auntie ĀYI, the ‘home well’ (鄉井) & heart of WellWellWell restaurant complex, Pacific Place Hong Kong

  • Vinki Li

Celebrating the humble yet legendary home kitchens across generations, and paying homage to the history of “ma jie” (馬姐) , Auntie ĀYI is a bastion of traditional craftsmanship and cultural rituals, with a passion to innovate and create modern meanings. In Auntie ĀYI, Interior is designed by Nelson Chow of NC Design and Architecture, the dining room features a futuristic, curvilinear chrome ceiling that echoes a spaceship's interior, while patterned velvet banquettes and lush purple carpets evoke the electric visuals of Wong Kar-wai's 2046. Partnering with NCDA, Vinki Li has painstakingly sourced and wall-hung framed Chinese artefacts including Chinese antique artefacts-like utensils, kitchen tools, beauty implements and other sundry to populate 43 “capsulated windows” that the passengers of the spaceship might admire in the same vein as a natural history museum.
