Beet Sustainability

  • Els Kenney

I produced a magazine as the final outcome for a factual documentary module, whilst studying for an extended diploma in creative media production and technology. Beet Sustainability features my original photography, recipes, illustrations and designs, as well as interviews with a local farmer and vegan activists, and research into subjects such as rainwater collection, livestock welfare and in-depth information about sources of plant-based nutrition in comparison to meat. This publication and it’s contents allowed me to develop my research skills and methods, having practiced extensive primary research in early stages of the module (Hollam Hill farm photography, pop-style, neon-style and macro food studies). This was my first attempt at industry-standard editorial design, and I frequently revisit this piece of work to consider ways to grow and develop.
