BLINK BOX KIDS APP

  • Lina Pio
Blinkbox is an established pay per view video platform. Tesco, Blinkbox’s now previouos owners, were keen to offer a suite of built in apps onboarded onto all their Android Hudl devices. They wanted ‘sticky’ apps that would keep users engaged and encourage them to enjoy their new Hudl devices.

As part of this strategy, they wanted to target seamless video streaming audiences. As a proof of concept they asked Blinkbox to look into this for children with their library of children’s content. The seamless video streaming app for children needed to be safe and fun, reassured parents and let children view content as much as possible and navigate without assistance.

I concepted several designs using the research and brainstormed ideas with the UI designerI explained the visual direction I was keen to push with and the UI designer explored these furtherUsing the prototype, we perfromed several user tests throughout the life of the project to test out designsI collected user research from Tesco’s wider teams, research on Blinkbox’s typical target demographic, and preexisting examples in the marketI drew up several wireframes to help both the UI designer and the developer to work from. These changed along with the design. As we designed, our work was being coded into our prototype by the developer.

I led an agile team with, a UI designer, a developer and a product manager towards an iterative design process, based on user testing carried out by our on site usability researcher. I presented the progress of the app at frequent stages to the executive leadership team to gain their participation.
