Body & florals The body is a beautiful piece of artwork that should be celebrated and loved. The bare skin against the florals is delicate and feminine and is softened by the use of natural light. Being unable to see the face removes any personal connection and allows the body to appear more as a sculptural object. Floral dress almost blends into the background, the glimpses of hair, skin and face are only what truly reveals that someone is stood there hiding in plain sight. The small amount of eye contact confronts the viewer making them look closer into the photo. The alternating of nude & clothed compares how differently the body can be presented and how differently it is viewed when clothed & nude. Body & denim These self portraits were originally created to reflect the struggle of jeans and the body changing. The disappointment of not being able to fit into a pair anymore but then finding ones that do. The scarf hides my body away, my positioning is more structured and stiff. Whereas the lighter blue jeans are ones that fit, the presentation of my body is more expressive and relaxed, more skin is on show as i'm not trying to hide myself away. The paint is added onto the photos to celebrate the body, the larger more defined brush strokes follow the shape creating movement as if the colour is just following out of me. The softer brush strokes blend the photo and paint more seamlessly together giving them a more traditional painting aesthetic. By leaving the bare skin untouched allows it to be framed by the paint and directs the viewers eye. My face is limited preventing any personal connection allowing the body to be the main focus.
