Body Positivity

  • Eve Omare

This self-directed project focuses on a social issue - body image. Social media often distorts our perception of what a 'normal body' is, and convinces us that being size 14+ is inadequate. I chose to challenge this issue by illustrating body positivity and self-acceptance. I experimented with editorial illustration to combine powerful quotes with illustrations of beautiful, curvy bodies. I use faceless illustration to help focus more on body shapes, which is a style I have never tried before. This project has helped me in many ways. Firstly, I'm recovering from an eating disorder and body dysmorphia. This project helps me feel more happy in my skin and makes me feel more accepted. Secondly, as stated before, I have never used this style of drawing before. I previously produced line drawings with colours and shading, but faceless illustration has now become my favourite style. Lastly, many people struggle to love their bodies, so I wanted to help them. I want to let other's know that the way they look is unique and beautiful, and they should praise the body that they're living in.
