Canis Major

This sculpture is inspired by the guard-dog of Orion, Canis Major is on the heels of its master and standing on its hind legs with Sirius carried in its jaws. This sculpture is red to represent its passion for hunting the hare Lepus. This is a large interior art piece that suits strong lighted conditions to enhance the strong faceted form. Situated in the excellent architectural space of the Bankside district. More specifically in the @artyard at the @banksidehotel in collaboration with @contemporary_collective. Canis Major contains Sirius the brightest star in the sky it is called the dog star and was also attributed to Isis in Egyptian mythology. This star is also the central religious theme to the Dogon tribe of Mali. The project was developed to bring a 3D virtual object into the real domain. Utilising 3D Computer graphics a template was produced to accurately assemble the model. Low-poly geometry is used to denote its virtual origin and the bright colour to intensify its synthetic aesthetic, looking at its abstract structure and form appearing like African urban primitivism.
