Circus Extravaganza explores the extravagance of the circus through refined shape, pattern and colour. The projects inspiration originates from a visit to the Continental Circus Berlin in Bournemouth and ‘The Greatest Showman’ film. I am fascinated by the vibrant illusions within the circus created by the performers, surreal colours, costumes and lighting. The vision for the collection stems from the atmosphere, illusions and magic of the circus, which subsequently lead to the exploration and creation of optical elements within my designs. The Op Art movement is a pivotal reference within my collection, yet I am conscious that I have included a contemporary twist through my sensitive use of colour, surface texture and pattern. Through the exploration of a variety of techniques such as, digital print design, Wilcom CAD embroidery, Irish embroidery, hand embellishment and laser cutting, I have created a collection suitable for luxury womenswear (fabrics visualised on SS15/16 Atelier Versace).
