To celebrate the 10th year of Clerkenwell Design Week, BA Graphic Design Communication at Chelsea College of Arts were tasked with creating designs for use on vinyl to represent the history of a series of locations along the art festival's route. My submission was a print design featuring items and symbols that relate to the history and events that took place at the House of Detention. For example, there is a blue cockade which is a symbol of the Protestant Association whose members were responsible for the destroying the prison in the 1780 Gordon Riots. The print aims to engage passers-by with bold colours and as they come closer and identify the images, they can refer to them on the accompanying key for more information. The print also acts as photo-op as members of the public can take photos against it.
