Collage 2018-2017

  • Alex Evans
These collages explore the relationship of figure and ground in the plane of abstraction and so the images rest in discomfort, devoid of a sense of spatial and temporal grounding. The perspective depth is lost to block colour and segments of torn collage are the distraction of position that retains the figure to its ground relationship.
The context of the collages explores the various social interactions that are either familiar or abstract. These include the strange nature of children's games and pubescent bullying that may occur, the physiological struggle emotions and feelings play over us in forms of lust, toxic masculine behaviour and depression.
