Coming out of our skin

  • Natalie Freear

These images were taken at the Manchester School of Art photography studio during my Art Foundation (specialism in fashion promotion, communication and photography). This project was all about exploring skin, both in a biological and psychological sense. I used these images for a magazine layout composition. The whole premise of this project was to depict the internal struggles of accepting being in ones own skin. I aimed to show the internal thoughts of the model externally; I placed the frequent thoughts fuelling the models insecurities to display her in a vulnerable position. However, I posed the model in a confident manner to depict her as taking control of the narrative and accepting her skin as it is. I aimed to encourage the viewer to reflect on their own insecurities and help them on their own journey of self-acceptance.
