This is a highly collaborative project. Before our portrait sessions, and sometimes even in the middle of them, we had in-depth conversations about the meaning of beauty, with the portraits being triggered/inspired by such interaction between us. Some of these women had body issues – which makes their contribution to the project even more relevant:
– “I don’t feel beautiful at all”;
– “I had years where I thought I was ugly – as this is what I was told in order to disempower me in a custody battle”;
– “It’s easier for everyone to see beauty in others rather than in ourselves”;
– “Beauty and happiness go together”;
– “I don’t need to be told that I am beautiful”.
