The COS x Studio Swine collaboration was initiated in 2017, when the brand partnered with Japanese Architect Azusa Murakami and British Artist Alexander Groves, to conceive an installation to be exhibited at the brand’s 6th annual Milan Design Week activity. Studio Swine created ‘New Spring’, an ephemeral installation centred around a focal sculpture that emitted scented mist-filled blossoms. The interactive piece was hosted at Cinema Arti, and drew upon the natural and the industrial, while making minimal use of resources to create an immersive multi-sensory experience. The success of this collaboration, as experienced by nearly 20,000 people in Milan, resulted in it winning a Milan Design Award for Best Engagement in 2017. COS then decided for the first time to tour one of its most anticipated collaborations and took ‘New Spring’ to Miami in the same year, to be shown as a satellite installation at Design Miami/. The setting for the installation was reconceived in response to its new environment; a light drenched Art Deco location in South Beach. For this second iteration, Studio Swine also designed a COS concept shop which was located within the venue, at which visitors could purchase a curated edit of COS collection. The last stop on the global COS x Studio Swine tour was Shanghai in 2018. Once again, Studio Swine adapted the installation to reflect the influences and milieu in which it was being shown. This iteration of ‘New Spring’ marked the launch of COS online in China, and the installation was open to the public for 9 days with 11,000 visitors passing through.
