CREASED

  • Becca Macdonald
When ceramic and fabric merge, one outlives the other.
During firing the knitted fabric disintegrates, but not without leaving a lasting impression. What is left is a trace of the fabric; an essence of what once was present.
It was this visual evidence of inhabitance, or the trace of gesture through a space, that I was keen to explore.
I wanted to create a permanent memory of movement.
‘Creased’ communicates the passing of a presence, one that interrupted the space and interfered with the surface.
The work takes the form of 25 fabric ceramic tiles.
