Critical Case Study: Lemlem

In this paper, the focus is on the fashion company lemlem. Lemlem’s mission focuses on ‘elevating artisanship and expanding production and jobs across Africa’ (lemlem.com, 2017). The word lemlem in Amharic means ‘to bloom’, or ‘to flourish’ (Rêve en Vert, 2017) and that is what lemlem is experiencing right now thanks to its focus on sustainability. As an example of an organisation prioritising women and their unique skills, lemlem is successfully working towards meeting one of the 17 sustainable development goals set by the UN, inevitably contributing to some of the others. In this study, an analysis on its activities is presented to demonstrate how a company can make a difference at all three – economic, environmental and social levels.
