CVIVS

CVIVS is a testament to the materiality of language; the meaning of the latin word is ‘testimony’ but it is also o en used as ‘testament’, a direct trace to the past. Departing from the lettering squeezes commissioned by Nicolete Gray for her study and interpretation of ancient forms of writing, the exhibition wishes to provoke evocative thoughts on the defamiliarizing semiotic power of letters by bringing attention to the role that the variation of small details such as form and space can occupy in the representation of meaning.
