Design For Music / Album Artwork

  • Lizzy Davis
This was a second year project that was lead by tutor Vaughan Oliver. The brief was to create album artwork  (packaging medium of our choosing). From researching Sia’s ‘100 Forms of Fear’, and from gathering my own perceptions, this album is largely about the artist’s battle with mental illness - depression, anxiety, and how it’s spilled into her personal life. Some of the songs are harrowing and painful, others uplifting and admirable.
The central graphic you see is created using the image of a scan that documents the brain activity of someone suffering from depression. It has a bit of a haunting, face-like appearance. The outer sleeve was made by printing onto acetate, making a semi transparent graphic. The text on the outer sleeve is also transparent, so that when opened, the elements create edgy optical illusion. This represents the confusing instability of battling with your own mind. (And is also just fun). - Made for a 10 inch Vinyl
