Di là Dall'acqua (Beyond water) is a psychological novel set in Venice, written by Elisabetta Baldiserotto.
The novel is a sequel to the first book "Morire non é niente" (Dying is nothing) and tells about the adventure of Detective Jacopo Zambon.
Both thrillers are set in a "disillusioned" Venice in which crimes happen besides the tourist routine.
"In Venice 'to go beyond the water' means to die because the cemetery is an island, but also the asylum, closed for decades, is 'beyond the water', on an island between San Giorgio and Lido. Its stories of despair, which everyone has forgotten, suddenly re-emerge, while a conference of Psychoanalysis is underway. It is up to Jacopo, with the help of his analyst, to untangle the intricate skein of oblivion and reticence that leads to the solution of more than one crime. A yellow novel on the removed and its ineluctable return. Because there is always someone who remembers."

The illustration is designed to evocate a metaphor between water and self-consciousness, associating the gradual darkening of the water with the deep feelings and mystery kept shield by our mind.
Water has always been a metaphor for judging mental health in psychology, the water can be calm and stormy, warm or cold, shallow or deep.
All of that is a path to the mystery kept by the asylum, that if unveiled it could clear everything up.
