ArtX Live! is the annual audiovisual experience which holds as a key part of West Africa’s premier art fair, ArtX Lagos. Although we were in a pandemic, the organisers took on the challenge of transforming the experience for a digital stage. As if things weren’t difficult enough, we also had to produce this body of work in the middle of the #EndSARS protests, which saw a massacre at the Lekki Toll gate. Tensions were clearly high, and even the participating acts felt the need to use their platform to articulate the pain of their fellow protesters. The resulting production, which took a full 180˙ as the shoot date approached, follows Oxlade and Tomi Owo in an evolving story which culminates in a call for freedom. I’d like to thank the ArtX team for trusting the creative vision, and our corporate sponsors who were considerate of the climate at hand to allow us produce a meaningful body of work.
