Disparities: Gender Culture and Sexual Assault in Isla Vista

Disparities is a documentary that focuses on the gender culture and prevalence of sexual assault at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and in its neighbouring town, Isla Vista. While on a study abroad placement from King's, I sat down with 9 students to discuss a range of gender related issues, including university housing, party culture, the separation of men and women, and the sexual violence that these structures might facilitate. Gathering a range of perspectives and insights, Disparities aims to raise awareness for these issues, encouraging us to think about the similarities or differences we can draw between this student culture and student culture in the UK.
