Editors: Myself, Faaria Khan & Millie Anscombe.
In collaboration with Stack Magazines, we were given a brief to simply "create a magazine". Our group decided to create a magazine that was a complete contrast of GQ; allowing boys and men to feel comfortable in their own bodies and to talk about issues, such as mental health, acne and so on.
Our first issue is titled "PAiNFULLY AVERAGE". As we want to be the opposite of GQ, we wanted to highlight the importance of boys being able to feel alright with being in their own skin, that it's alright to have issues, and that most people don't have washboard abs, like the models we see in media. It's ok to be painfully average.
As we are all very much interested in menswear, and due to feedback from our consumer, we decided to add multiple fashion editorials into the magazine, each looking into the struggles that young men face, such as stress, pressures to "man up" etc. We also spoke to local Nottingham band, Silver Wilson about life as a band, and just got to know them as individuals. We took a trip to Tokyo, and documented this in our A-Lad-In series, in which we explore a different city every issue.
All work within the magazine was produced by ourselves, including styling, art direction, editorial design, administration and much more.
