This summer I was asked to design the BA (Hons) Fine Art/Art & Visual Culture Degree Show visual identity and publication. The concept of the show’s name ‘Eleventh’ came from the fact that the show will be Spike Island’s eleventh UWE degree show. With so much attention on the tenth, the committee felt that their own show should be considered no less a mark of celebration. The ‘Eleventh’ will be another show in a long line of others and no less important. We chose to use the visual device of a tally chart to mark this fact. It is sequential and a universal means to communicate 11. The isolated marker on the end accentuates the theme of the Eleventh being just as special.
