As the Design Intern at ELLE Magazine, I was assigned a brief to create an advertisement for a promotion coming soon in collaboration with River Island. This was to be located in the upcoming issue of the magazine. To complete this I was provided with the copy, logo and eight jpeg images of upcoming garments in the new River Island collection. For this brief there was no style guide or suggested routes, so I was therefore free to explore methods to make it stand out and appeal to the reader. I began by exploring with a variety of collage approaches but after a constructive dialogue with the Art Director it was agreed that it revealed too much negative space and we therefore needed an approach that would make better use of the page. It was here I experimented with the images with the aim of creating a pattern to become the background to the design. I then proceeded to place the copy over the top which evolved to create the final design. This was then presented to the Creative Director and subsequently printed in the September issue.
